new Biotechnology - Anagen LS-30 surfactants can help separate and purify the desired end products of many biochemical processes with greater efficiency than sodium dodecyi sulfate. The unusual effectiveness of acyi sarcosinates in the solubilization of bacterial cell walls at low concentrations has been attributed to the "interrupted soap"-tike structure of sarcosinates.
  N-AcyI Sarcosinate has been shown to selectively solubilize the cytoplasmic membrane of lysed Escherichia Coli cells, while leaving the outer lipoplysaccharide membrane intact under conditions in which Triton* X-100 and sodium dodecyi sutfate solubilized all membrane protein0'. The presence of Mg2* during treatment with sarcosinate afforded partial protection of the cytoplasmic membrane from dissolution.
  A technique has been developed for detecting deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) associated with membrane12'. In this procedure, cells lysed in the presence of sarcosinate and Mg2* produced a consistent band on centrifugation which contains crystals of Mg2* sarcosinate, membrane and attached DNA.
  The hormone, bovine somatotropin (BST), has great commercial potential as a growth rate promoter in cattle, hogs and salmon and it also increases the meat to fat ratio. BST also increases milk production in dairy cattle. Because of their capability to electively solubilize proteins without causing them to be denatured, sarcosinates are used to extract bovine somatotropin from transformed E coli cells13'.

new Corrosion Inhibition -The N-acyI sarcosines have been shown to be effective corrosion inhibitors in aqueous environments. The corrosion inhibition of mild steel alloy J55 in 15% HCI at 40℃ by sarcosinates, is presented in Table 1. The weight loss of the specimens was taken as a measure of corrosion. All three sarcosinates reduce the rate of corrosion almost tenfold over the blank. Under these severely acidic conditions however, the sarcosinates will slowly hydrolyze to sarcosine and fatty acid and lose their effectiveness.
